4012 of New Albany, Indiana has a proud legacy rooted in the heart of Floyd County’s Scouting tradition. Established to serve youth from local schools such as Scribner, Christian Academy, Hazelwood and nearby homeschool families, Troop 4012 has long been a cornerstone of character development and outdoor adventure in the community. The troop welcomes young Scouts from the vibrant Cub Scout Pack 4012, which has been active in civic engagement, including visits to City Hall and interactions with local leaders like the Mayor of New Albany. As Scouts transition from the Arrow of Light Den into Troop 4012, they carry forward a tradition of service, leadership, and exploration that reflects the values of Scouting and the spirit of New Albany.
Over the years, Troop 4012 has participated in numerous activities that connect Scouts with the rich history of their hometown. New Albany, founded in 1813 by the Scribner brothers, was once Indiana’s largest city and a hub for steamboat building and glass manufacturing. The troop’s outings often include visits to historical landmarks such as the Scribner House and the Old New Albany Historical Marker, helping Scouts appreciate the legacy of their community while building their own. Whether through service projects, camping trips, or civic events, Units of 4012 continue to foster a strong sense of identity and pride among its members, rooted in both Scouting values and the heritage of New Albany.
