What is NYLT?

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed, six-day course designed to provide youth members with essential leadership skills and experience. It is a youth-led program that emphasizes leadership of self and others in a troop and patrol outdoor setting.

Participants will engage in:

  • Team-building activities
  • Leadership presentations
  • Outdoor challenges
  • The “Quest for the Meaning of Leadership”

The course centers around what a leader must BE, must KNOW, and must DO, with a strong focus on how to lead effectively.


Eligibility Requirements

To attend NYLT, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Scouts BSA:

    • Must be 13 years old by the course start date
    • Must be First Class Rank or higher
    • Must have attended a week-long Scout camp
    • Must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
  • Venturers:

    • Must be 14 years old, or 13 and completed 8th grade
    • Must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC)
  • All participants must be recommended by their Scoutmaster or Crew Advisor and must attend all six days of the course.


Registration & Fees

  • Deposit: $75 (applied toward tuition)
  • Full Payment: $325 due by June 1, 2026
  • Camp Fee Assistance: Available upon request
