The Scouting legacy of 4012 in New Albany, Indiana, began in 1982 with the founding of Cub Scout Pack 12 at Graceland Baptist Church. The pack was established by community leaders Bobby Wagner, Joe Jenkins, Bob Stepro, and Pete Zorno, under the George Rogers Clark Council, which served Southern Indiana until its merger in the early 1990s.

In 1984, Boy Scout Troop 12 was formed, utilizing equipment from the closing Troop 99, helping the new troop launch with essential resources.

A major change occurred in 1993, when the George Rogers Clark Area Council, based in New Albany, merged with the Old Kentucky Home Council to form the Lincoln Heritage Council. To avoid confusion with similarly numbered units in Kentucky, the New Albany units adopted the number 4012, becoming Pack 4012, Troop 4012, and Crew 4012.

When the Boy Scouts of America reorganized the Exploring program in 1998, the post transitioned into a Venturing Crew, continuing its mission under the new structure.

Graceland Baptist Church decided not to recharter the Scouting units, following a trend among many Baptist churches to end their involvement with Scouting. This decision prompted the search for a new chartered organization to keep the program active.
The New Chapel Fire Department stepped in as the new chartered organization, ensuring continuity for the units. Meetings were relocated to Grantline Elementary School, providing a convenient space for weekly activities.
In 2019, the program expanded again with the formation of Girls Troop 4012, led by Scoutmaster Mark Adams, providing young women in the area the opportunity to participate fully in the Scouts BSA program.

By 2023, following the pandemic, the units began to grow again, attracting new families and leaders. Grace Lutheran Church welcomed the Scouts, becoming their new meeting place and offering strong community support.
In 2025, Grace Lutheran Church officially became the chartered organization for all 4012 units. This partnership continues today, providing stability and a permanent home for the Scouting program.
