Position Specific

In Scouting America, every adult volunteer plays a vital role in shaping the experiences and development of youth. To ensure that each volunteer is equipped to lead effectively, Position-Specific Training is required for all registered leaders. This training is tailored to the unique responsibilities of each role—whether you’re a Den Leader, Scoutmaster, Committee Member, or Merit Badge Counselor—and is available through my.scouting.org

Position-Specific Training provides clarity on expectations, safety protocols, and leadership techniques. Volunteers learn how to deliver engaging, educational, and safe programs that align with Scouting America’s mission. The training includes modules on program planning, youth development, risk management, and mentorship, ensuring that leaders are prepared to support Scouts in their journey toward character, citizenship, and fitness.

Why It Matters

  • Role Clarity: Volunteers gain a clear understanding of their duties, helping them lead confidently and consistently.
  • Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Training covers essential safety protocols and emergency response strategies.
  • Leadership Development: Volunteers build skills in communication, organization, and conflict resolution.
  • Mentorship Techniques: Learn how to guide Scouts through personal growth and skill-building.
  • Program Continuity: Trained leaders ensure a stable and high-quality experience across units and councils.
  • Standardized Practices: Position-specific training promotes consistency and fairness in program delivery.
