What is NYLT?
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed, six-day course designed to provide youth members with essential leadership skills and experience. It is a youth-led program that emphasizes leadership of self and others in a troop and patrol outdoor setting.
Participants will engage in:
- Team-building activities
- Leadership presentations
- Outdoor challenges
- The “Quest for the Meaning of Leadership”
The course centers around what a leader must BE, must KNOW, and must DO, with a strong focus on how to lead effectively.
Eligibility Requirements
To attend NYLT, participants must meet the following criteria:
Scouts BSA:
- Must be 13 years old by the course start date
- Must be First Class Rank or higher
- Must have attended a week-long Scout camp
- Must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
Venturers:
- Must be 14 years old, or 13 and completed 8th grade
- Must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC)
All participants must be recommended by their Scoutmaster or Crew Advisor and must attend all six days of the course.
Registration & Fees
- Deposit: $75 (applied toward tuition)
- Full Payment: $325 due by June 1, 2026
- Camp Fee Assistance: Available upon request
